Abu Dhabi Slashes E311 Speed Limit To 100 km/h Starting September 14

Abu Dhabi Mobility, previously known as the Integrated Transport Centre, has announced a reduction in the speed limit on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road (E311). Effective Monday, 14 September 2026, the maximum speed limit will be lowered from 120 km/h to 100 km/h in both directions.

The affected stretch covers the area between the approaches around Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street/Tawi Al Qaymah Street and Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street/Al Khayr Street. This zone, which includes the landmark Baniyas Cemetery for those traveling toward Dubai, is flanked by Al Shamkhah to the north and Madinat Al Riyad/Baniyas to the south.

Speeding Fines And Rules

Authorities have reinforced that Abu Dhabi enforces a zero-tolerance policy regarding radar detection, meaning there is no 20 km/h buffer as seen in other emirates. Penalties for speeding range from AED 300 to AED 3,000. Drivers exceeding the limit by more than 80 km/h face 23 black points and vehicle impoundment for 60 days.

E11 Road Closures

Additionally, Abu Dhabi Mobility announced the temporary closure of two left lanes on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street (E11) toward Al Shahama. This closure begins at 12:00 AM on Sunday, 13 September, and concludes at 5:00 AM on Monday, 14 September.

This speed limit adjustment follows the removal of the 120 km/h minimum speed on the E311 in April 2025. Officials advise motorists to watch for new 100 km/h signage, adjust cruise control accordingly, and account for potential travel delays during the E11 lane closures.
