We publish corrections openly. A newsroom that hides its mistakes cannot be trusted about anything else.

How to report an error

The headline and link of the article
What is wrong, quoted from the article
What the correct information is, and a source for it if you have one

Correction requests are read by the Chief Editor and are not routed through anyone commercial.

What we do

We investigate every request, including anonymous ones.
Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, without waiting for a publishing cycle.
Every correction is disclosed on the article itself, in a note at the foot of the piece stating what was wrong, what it now says, and the date and time of the change. We do not edit an error away silently.
Where the error was in the headline, or was serious enough to change the meaning of the story, the note appears at the top of the article.
Where the article was shared on our social channels, we post the correction there too.

Our timescales

Distinguishing corrections from updates

A correction fixes something we got wrong. An update adds new information to a story that was accurate when published. Both are dated and noted on the article, and we do not describe one as the other.

When we decline

We do not remove or amend accurate reporting because it is unwelcome. If we decline a request we explain why, in writing, and the person may escalate it under our Complaints & Grievance Redressal procedure.
