The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has launched a comprehensive operational plan ahead of the 2026-27 academic year, which commences on Monday, August 31, 2026. To manage the expected surge in traffic, taxi demand, and public transport usage, the RTA has implemented several measures including a 30-day intensive inspection campaign for school buses. This campaign focuses on verifying adherence to safety standards, operating procedures, and the validity of permits for school bus drivers and attendants.

To alleviate pressure on transport networks,
the RTA will increase the frequency of over 30 public bus routes, specifically targeting high-traffic zones such as Al Nahda, Muhaisnah, Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Al Garhoud. Students holding a Student nol card continue to be eligible for a 50 percent discount on the Dubai Metro, Tram, and public buses. Parents are advised to verify their child's nol card profile and ensure adequate balance before the term begins.
Taxi availability will be increased across various school zones to support families during peak drop-off and pick-up hours. Furthermore, the RTA is supporting regulated ride-hailing and pooling options, including Careem School Rides, Uber Teens, BOLT School, and the Yango pooling initiative in Al Barsha, which offers shared ride options for students.
Infrastructure improvements have been finalized at six key school-zone locations, benefiting over 10 schools. These improvements include new road connections at Al Qudra Road and Hessa Street for GEMS Metropole School in Motor City, a 100 percent increase in parking capacity at Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif, and traffic enhancements at Al Barsha South, Al Sufouh near The International School of Choueifat - Dubai, and Wadi Al Safa 4 near GEMS Winchester School - Dubai.
