Oman Ends Mandatory Midday Work Ban Discover Final Day Rules

Discover the final day details as Oman ends its mandatory midday work ban for outdoor workers on August 31, 2026.
- The three-month regulation prohibiting work in open areas between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM ends on August 31, 2026.
- The rule has been in effect annually from June 1 to August 31 according to the Ministry of Labour.
- Standard work schedules resume starting September 1 for workers including the large Indian community in Oman.
Final Day Restrictions and Penalties
Through the end of the day on August 31, employers are strictly prohibited from scheduling outdoor work during the 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM window. Violations of this Ministry of Labour directive can result in fines ranging from OMR 500 to OMR 1,000, in addition to other administrative measures. Employers are advised that the summer rule remains fully in effect throughout the final day, regardless of the upcoming expiration.
Resuming Standard Work Schedules
Effective September 1, companies may revert to standard shift timings, including early-morning starts or late-afternoon resumptions. Workers are advised to confirm their duty rosters, transportation pickup times, and shift schedules with their site supervisors or HR departments. Establishments that operated under special permits during the summer—which required adherence to strict safety conditions such as air-conditioned rest areas, cold drinking water, and first-aid supplies—must also note that the permit framework concludes on August 31.
Heat Safety and Employment Compliance
While the seasonal ban expires, authorities emphasize that heat safety remains critical, as temperatures in Oman—particularly in interior and industrial areas—remain high in September. Workers are cautioned to continue monitoring for symptoms of heat stress, including dizziness, headaches, weakness, muscle cramps, and excessive sweating. Employees are encouraged to maintain documentation of any new shift schedules, including rosters or supervisor confirmations, to avoid potential disputes regarding working hours, overtime, or transportation. Furthermore, all non-Omani workers are reminded to strictly adhere to their existing work visa contracts and authorized employment frameworks as defined by the Ministry of Labour, as shift adjustments do not change the underlying legal terms of their employment.
