Oman has entered into a formal labour agreement to recruit 10,000 workers from Bangladesh, consisting of
5,000 positions in the agricultural sector and 5,000 in the fisheries sector. The deal follows discussions held in Dhaka on 9 September 2026. Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam confirmed the agreement following a meeting with an Omani delegation led by Al Sayyid Mohammed Salim Ali Al Said, a member of the Omani royal family. According to the Minister, official procedures will be finalized during an Omani delegation visit to Bangladesh in October 2026, in coordination with the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment. The initiative marks a significant sector-specific reopening of labour channels following recent restrictions on Bangladeshi work visas in Oman.
The existing agricultural quota of 5,000 workers is managed through registered members of Omani agricultural associations, such as the Al Dhahirah branch in Ibri, which issued an application process in August 2026 requiring a 25 RO annual fee and documentation including a hiyaza agricultural holding certificate, national ID, a Ministry of Labour work permit, and a 2026/27 cultivation form. Each governorate and association was previously capped at approximately 330 workers under this quota.
The new pact adds 5,000 fishery jobs to this existing framework.
Authorities have advised job seekers to await official guidance from the Oman Ministry of Labour, the Royal Oman Police, and the Bangladesh Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training BMET to avoid fraudulent recruitment practices.
