Qatar Airways Launches Fast Pass Facial Recognition at Doha Airport
Doha, September 15, 2026: Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport have introduced 'Fast Pass,' a facial-recognition service designed to expedite passenger processing. Eligible travelers can link their facial image to their passport and boarding pass post-check-in, allowing their face to serve as a biometric identity token at designated airport touchpoints. Qatar Airways clarified that Fast Pass is an optional service and does not replace the legal requirement for a passport. Original passports remain mandatory for immigration at both Doha and the destination airport, as well as for compliance with visa and transit regulations.
Where to Find Fast Pass at the Airport
The service is available at self-service bag-drop positions 1 and 2 in Row 3, dedicated Fast Pass Gates 9 and 10 at security, and boarding gates in Concourses A, B, and C. Technology partner SITA stated that Hamad International Airport has integrated over 700 touchpoints for this biometric journey, marking it as one of the largest deployments in the Middle East. According to guidance published on September 14, the service is currently available for eligible Qatar Airways flights for passengers aged 18 and older departing from Doha who possess a valid passport.
How to Sign Up for the Service
Enrollment can be completed via the latest Qatar Airways app, which allows data storage for future trips, or at self-service kiosks located near Row 3 at the airport. Kiosk-based data is trip-specific and deleted 24 hours after flight departure. If biometric cameras fail to verify a passenger, they may revert to the standard boarding pass process. Travelers are advised to keep their physical documents accessible at all times.
Important Rules for Passengers
The service is currently unavailable for minors and passengers with disabilities, who must follow standard assisted airport procedures. Passengers traveling from Doha to Indian destinations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru are advised to check their eligibility status within the app after check-in. The airline emphasizes that Fast Pass does not impact immigration, visa status, or destination entry requirements.
