Doha: The Qatar government, through the state electronic portal Hukoomi Qatar, issued a reminder on September 13, 2026, regarding eligibility for permanent residency under Law No. 10 of 2018. The official notification outlines that qualified individuals may submit applications online, with a processing fee of 3,000 Qatari Riyals. Annual issuance is limited to 100 permanent residency cards.

The five categories eligible for permanent residency include: children of Qatari women married to non-Qatari husbands; wives of Qatari citizens; non-Qatari husbands married to Qatari women; individuals born in Qatar; and long-term residents born outside of Qatar who have completed 20 years of continuous residency.
Certain groups, including children of Qatari citizens, spouses, children of naturalized citizens, and individuals with extraordinary talent or those who have provided special services to the state, may be exempt from the 20-year residency requirement.
General conditions for applicants include having sufficient income, a clean criminal record, and proficiency in the Arabic language.
Simultaneously, the Qatar Ministry of Justice reiterated information regarding nine designated freehold zones in and around Doha.
Individuals investing at least 3.65 million Qatari Riyals (approximately 1 million USD) in property may access residency benefits, including healthcare, education, and investment rights, provided they reside in Qatar for at least 90 days annually. Furthermore,
an investment of 730,000 Qatari Riyals in property grants sponsor-free residency, also subject to the 90-day annual stay requirement.
Applications can be processed entirely online via the Hukoomi Qatar or Ministry of Interior portals.

Officials emphasized that permanent residency is distinct from citizenship and that applicants should verify current regulations on the Ministry of Interior or Hukoomi websites prior to submission.
