Sharjah Al Taawun Tunnel Phase One Opening Set For November 2026

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has announced that the first phase of the Al Taawun Tunnel project will open in November 2026. This project aims to reduce traffic and make travel easier for commuters between Sharjah and Dubai.

  • The 500-meter-long tunnel has three lanes in each direction.
  • It sits beneath the Al Taawun Roundabout to connect Al Taawun Street and the Al Nahda Bridge.
  • The full project finishes by February 2027 with a cost part of a Dh750 million road upgrade program.

Tunnel Details And Traffic Impact

The new signalized intersection handles about 4,200 vehicles per hour during peak periods. Officials anticipate that this infrastructure development will reduce waiting times by up to 85 percent, providing significant relief for thousands of residents who live in Sharjah and commute to work in Dubai. The opening is strategically timed to precede the Sharjah International Book Fair 2026, which will improve access to the Expo Centre Sharjah.

Construction And Future Plans

To facilitate the construction, the landmark monument at the Al Taawun Roundabout was temporarily removed and will be reinstalled once the project is completed. Al Taawun Street serves as a primary traffic corridor between Sharjah and Dubai, which frequently experiences heavy congestion. This project is expected to have a direct impact on the daily lives of thousands of expatriates who commute between the two emirates.
