A fire broke out in an apartment building in the Mangaf area of Kuwait early Friday morning, resulting in injuries to two individuals. Firefighting teams from the Mangaf Central and Fahaheel stations responded to the scene, successfully evacuated the building, and extinguished the blaze. The two injured persons were handed over to relevant authorities for medical treatment. The identities and nationalities of the victims, as well as the specific cause of the fire, have not yet been disclosed by officials.
Following the incident, Kuwait Fire Force official spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib released data regarding the first half of 2026. The department handled 8,282 reports out of 8,751 total incidents. These included 3,171 rescue operations and 2,159 fire-related incidents. Of the fire cases,
629 occurred in residential areas, 314 in non-residential premises, 432 in land transport, and 778 in other categories.
The Kuwait Fire Force has issued an electrical safety warning, citing short circuits as a frequent cause of fires. Residents are advised to avoid overloading sockets, ensure regular maintenance of wiring by qualified technicians, and maintain functioning smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. The authority explicitly warned against using elevators during emergencies and advised residents to head to designated assembly points. In an emergency, residents should call the unified number 112 or the Civil Defence hotline at 1804000.
This incident in Mangaf comes after a major fire in the same area in June 2024, which claimed 50 lives and significantly impacted the Indian expatriate community. Authorities emphasize that the current incident is unrelated to the 2024 tragedy, though it underscores the importance of fire safety, particularly in shared accommodations where workers are encouraged to ensure emergency exits remain unobstructed and to report electrical risks to building management.
